Q: What is required to get a N.C. real estate license?  To get your NC Real Estate license the first class to take is the 75 Hour Provisional Broker Pre-Licensing course.
In order to obtain a real estate license, The State of North Carolina currently requires that you complete the following steps:
      -
Receive a certificate by PASSING a state approved Provisional Broker course of at least 75 hours.
-Submit your certificate along with an application form, background check and a $30 money order (filing fee) to the N.C. Real Estate Commission. There is an additional $57 fee for the computerized state exam which is taken through a stadardized testing company called Promissor. The computerized exam enables the student to receive their license much more quickly. Test results are given immediately at the testing center.
-If you have more questions about state requirements, call us or check the North Carolina Real Estate Commission website - www.ncrec.state.nc.us.
Q: What is required to have the provisional status removed from your NC Broker's License?
You will complete an additional 90 hours of Broker Post-Licensing within three years in order to keep your real estate license and be issued a Broker License.  The 90 hours are broken down into three 30 hour courses which need to be completed at the minimum rate of one 30 hour course per year.  You may schedule these Broker Post-Licensing classes as quickly as you like after you have received your license, and the classes may be taken in any order.
Q: What is the difference between Provisional Broker and Broker?

In NC, a Provisional Broker is required to hold an active Provisional Broker license, and work under the supervision of a licensed Broker-In-Charge. A Broker is required to have additional post-licensing education and may work for another broker or work independently.
Q: How hard is the Math portion of the State exam?
The State exam usually includes about 20 math problems. These problems are NOT difficult but often consist of multiple steps and do require a good understanding of basic arithmetic, percentage calculations and very simple formulas.
    Q: What is
    Broker Post-Licensing?
These are the classes that complete your basic real estate education for North Carolina.  Although you are approved to begin working with a Provisional Broker license, the NCREC wants you to have the Post-Licensing classes to complete your "core" education and keep your license.
